Although only 23, Lee is a seasoned and celebrated veteran of the greater Bay Area bluegrass scene and nine-time winner of the Northern California Bluegrass Awards for best female vocalist, exhibiting a musical depth and maturity beyond her years. Her band, already a fixture on the Northern California acoustic circuit, was poised to broaden its radius when the pandemic struck in early 2020. But rather than being a hindrance, AJ Lee and Blue Summit used the ensuing 18 months as fuel for the creative fire and are scheduled to release their second full-length album, “I’ll Come Back,” on Friday, Aug. 20.

 On their debut release, “Like I Used To,” the band stepped away from traditional bluegrass instrumentation and production, but this session is a return to basics putting all emphasis on AJ Lee & Blue Summit’s live sound and chemistry..  Drawing from influences such as country, soul, swing, rock, and jam music, the band uses the lens of bluegrass as a vessel through which to express and explore the thread that binds and unifies all great music.
